Important Bird Areas in Maharashtra

        There are six national parks and 41 wildlife sanctuaries and 1 protected area in the state. There are four tiger reserves, namely Melghat  (Amaravati), Tadoba-Andhari (Chandrapur), Pench (Nagpur), and Sahaydri (Kolhapur and Sangli) and Sanjay Gandhi, Gugaamal, Navagaon, Pench, Chandoli and Tadoba are the six national parks. A total 8,994.95 sq. km comes under the PA network, amounting to 2.92% of the state’s geographical. 

        A total of 20 sites have been identified as Important Bird Areas, in which seven are wildlife sanctuaries; two are national parks, three are Tiger Reserves and eight non-protected areas. The total area of the IBAs in the State is 12,86,581 ha.
